Yes,Yes another newbee here. well... i dug my 78 kz1000 police outa the junk on its way to being scrap...no tank,bars,wiring,seat...just a frame and motor,,some wheels. everything very rusty. motor was stuck,carbs stuck..me and a buddy dragged it from the bed of his pick-up because it wouldnt roll anymore.
i pulled the plugs and filled the cyls with brake fluid and let her sit for a couple a weeks and began the freeing up process.....and wal-la one year later the darn thing runs. homemade hydraulic clutch,brackets mounts. cut the frame and added my own touches. retro fitted the electrical system from three different bikes. rectifier,from this,regulator from that...so on.
this is on really tough machine. it laid for over 8 years and had been nearly picked clean by the vultures. but it still runs. when i was young these bikes were
infamous. i now know why. i will now begin the process of going through the motor. i am hooked.

...I knew there was a constructive use for the corrosive nature of brake fluid.

how do you make a hydraulic clutch? that just sounds trick!that is one big mean nasty looking bike!bikes that look like that give little old ladies bad dreams for weeks.now i want it!

I usually don't like that big front tire, but on this bike I LOVE IT!!

Welcome to the site and congrats for rescuing another "classic".

front same as rear..140-90-18's. i have a different tank for it but im not finished with it yet. its a 30 footer but it gets as many looks as the next bike. it kinda e-v-o-l-v-e-d into what it is. a friend gave me the bike shortly before my father past. im 39 and hadnt ridin since a divorce some ten years ago. now re-married to a beautiful wife with three kids and then there was this pile of kawasaki. i have built many many bikes over the years. but not like the the bikes you see now. old bsa choppers and bobbed sprints. but i remember this one dude had a kz 900 it was brand new. man that thing was bad! just the fastest thing on the street. so on a budget of about $400 i managed to wake this old dead bike for another go around. amazes me this bikes will to live:) i'll post some more pics later.

oh BTW the hydraulic clutch is just a piece of diamond plate with an FZR clutch hydraulic slave fitted to it. not really a hydraulic clutch..just the pusher. it was a very easy convertion and has a much smoother clutch pull and release. way better than the frozen cable the bike came with. Ed

That must be a dif front end ?I had trouble getting a 100 tire on mine. What kind of pipe is that? it looks sweet.

YOWZA!!!

Turns out that cop triple trees are in fact a bit wider than stock streeters; not sure exactly how much, but my '78's fork legs measure 8 3/8" on centers...

That back tire don't look anything near the front! Wow! The gyroscopic effect on the front of that bike must be incredible! It does look badass! Cool! They are tough machines...sort of the Terminator of bikes! Toss them out in a field for 10 years and they just sit there muttering "I'll be back!" ! Nice job!
