New to the forum, but not to riding. Ride year round, exept the few days it snows.

Looking to turn my 1976 KZ900 LTD into a street fighter. Frame is broken on the left side right above the exhaust so it will be a complete tear down.

Do you have a picture of the break in frame? B)
Oh wait,I think I see it!
Is it broken or cut?

The frame is broken in an S shape. Figured I would make a clean cut on either side of the break, cross drill both sides, fab a plug so I can plug and seam weld. Might do the other side while I'm at it just for good measure. Is that a common break point for these frames? I thought I've seen tube braces on other projects that looked like they were addressing this area.

The bike isn't as tits as I would like. Since it's from the NorthWest all the fancy bits are not so fancy anymore. If I'm going to spend time to bring it back I want it to look a bit modern. And I cannot stand that Harley looking back wheel and king/queen seat. Looks like a sportster wannabe.

My other bikes are giving it bad looks. When I was out in the garage a little bit ago it looks like it was scared and peed a little on the carpet. Good thing my dirt bikes are caged up.

flat seat 18 inch rim...good tires...

the other bikes are giving it looks because it was the best looking bike ever built and they are mere pretenders to the throne

ltd's were wierdos but nothing putting decades newer parts on them will fix

Flat seat, 17 inch rims, Michelin PP2 or PR2's.

Even my Cushman Eagle knows better than to pee on the rug.

Guess they were going after the cruiser guys. It's wierd, but adaptable.

Maybe its just me but it looks like forks are bent between lower triple and top of lower legs ;)
That could be part of reason frame is broke,I think somebody pieced to frames together with half ass welds B)

Yes, that 1980 frontend looks tweeked. Along with a mix of newer engine parts, 1000cc valve cover, 1980 side sprocket cover, Z1R brake disc's.
Sell it and start over or part the stuff you are going to change out on ebay.
This way it gives you some operating ca$h.
