Hello from Northern New York! was created by Ahrens
I want to bring back to life a long lost friend, or cousin there of I should say that was going to the scrap yard for metal, a 1981 GPz1100 B1 I found in a barn here in upstate New York. It was bought new in New Hampshire, May 1981 and found it's way to the barn in 1984 when the 1st owner moved due to job relocation and never rode it again. There it sat, from July 1984 until I uncovered it Oct. 21st, 2012 and loaded it for the trip to a loving home.

The long unthought out storage was not nice to the gas tank, fuel pump, tires etc, but it most part it's mostly here, just doesn't run. Fuel being the biggest issue, seems there are a bunch of parts available for the Factory FI System on ebay and on shelves in back yard garages around the world as most gave up trying to keep the FI system. I'm not one of those guys, I want this thing to run the way I remember mine did when new in 1981, like a "freshly f*%ked fox in a forest fire". Also in the pics you'll notice the horns are missing, chain guard and it has this funny cross between a Z1R &1982 GPz fairing on it, 1st owner wwore it was on it fronm the Dealer "new" along with the case guards. While mine was purchased, new it had the case guards but no fairing, also there is a serial number difference of over 7,500 between the two bikes with this newer aquired one being built in Dec. 1980. With it's low 3 digit serial number maybe the fairing was available at that time, as I have seen others on the web with the same fairing.

I'm in need of some tech info, I have a Kawasaki KZ1100 Manual, just not the supplement that covers the GPz1100 for the years 1981-82.

I'll post up some pics, and keep my fingers crossed that the info will come pouring in......

Mike

Welcome to KZR...if you have the KZ1000/KZ1100 genuine Kawasaki shop manual, then you have all the info on the big GPz's that Kawasaki offered. There was no supplement that covered the 1981/1982 GPz1100's. As for the fairing...it was sold by Kawasaki but only as an aftermarket...not factory supplied (part number K46000-153). The dealer likely installed the fairing, but it did not arrive that way from the factory.

I've got the 1981 KZ1000, KZ1100 Kawaskai Service Manaul I took when I left Max's Kawasaki, Abilene, TX in 1985 and there is not one thing in it that covers any part of the GPz model. There was a supplement just like for the Police Model and the FI Classic in 1980, I had it at one time but about a dowen or so moves since then I can't find it.

If you have or know the were abouts of a original KZ100, KZ1100 manual that has the 1981 GPz1100 B1 in it please direct me to it.

Thanks,

Mike

I have all three editions of the KZ1000/KZ1100 manual (99926-1026-01, 99926-1026-02, and 99926-1026-03) and all of them extensively cover the KZ1100-B1 model. Not sure what you have but all three above editions are readily available on eBay and any of them will cover your bike.

Kawasaki published a GPz supplement in 1983 to cover the ZX1100-A1/2/3 model with an additional edition to also cover the KZ1100R1 and the ZX1100A series (aimed at the Canadian market). Information for the KZ1100B series is contained in the main manuals mentioned above.

Now that's the ticket....the copy I have is in a binder, hand written heading KZ1000-KZ1100 1981 and doesn't include any of this stuff. The supplement I had and can't find could of been for 1980 Classic, I think, wish I could find that!

Anyway, A BIG Thanks....I don't know why my searches didn't turn that up....I have talked to Mike before and tried to download from his page but I kept getting an error from Adobe and it wouldn't open after downloading.

Again a million thanks.....

I'll keep this up to date as I start checking the FI system next week when I get back home.
