Another new guy from Nebraska
02 Oct 2012 21:20
Hi all...found this forum and website via the Kawasaki KZ1000 Motorcycle Riders Facebook page. Back in the mid 80's, I had a KZ750 LTD that I really enjoyed riding. Unfortunately, life dictated that I sell it, and I've been sorry ever since. I was checking out Craigslist a couple of months ago, and found this 82 KZ1000 LTD, and bought it. It's all original, save for the tires, battery, and seat, and has only 16,000 miles on it. I'm extremely happy with it, but right now, I'm trying to sort out a backfire in one of the right side cylinders when it's hot. Doesn't seem to happen when I'm at speed, or when the bike is first started and is cold. Changed plugs, thinking of the cheap fix, but that didn't help. Once I get that figured out, though, I'm ready to hit the highway! I'm looking forward to being a member of this group, and hopefully, will learn a thing or two along the way!

Reported backfire issue is a typical symptom of too tight intake valve clearance.
Would assure all valve clearances are within spec.
Good Fortune!

Welcome. That's a very nice and clean bike. I think you did well.
