Hello all! 1982 KZ 750CSR
26 Jul 2012 00:44
I made the deal of a lifetime. I traded my old 2.9L out of my broncoII for a 1982 Kawasaki 750CSR! It runs great and drives even better. It needs a little maintenance but other than that its great! I have found the carbs needed to be cleaned. So I've done that but I've noticed the boots connecting the carbs to the air box are kinda a PITA to get back on the carbs... I cleaned them like I said but my dad wanted to take it for a spin and drove it down a dirt road. The boot on the one carb wasn't on very well so needless to say the carbs need to be cleaned again. Is there a secret to those boots or is there a way to eliminate the air box and get two separate air cleaners for it?

I would not go with individual filters unless you want to fiddle with jetting - and still probably not succeed. You can gently heat the rubbers with a hair dryer to make them more pliable during installation, that may do the trick.

If you can't soften the boots just replace them. When new they are soft and easy to install; over time they get hard. Read through this thread:

The airbox ducts may not be available any more - they're listed as OBSOLETE at PowerSportsPlus.com.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration
Oooops; you are right - part #16065-1046 is discontinued. I searched the normal parts houses and could not find any. There is 1 on eBay; I would grab it while I could; then you only need to struggle with 1 boot until another shows up.

I've only had to do this a few times but instead of heating I just used a VERY light coat of petroleum jelly and some patience.

An alternate way to heat them is to use hot hot water.

Well I got other troubles it seems the starter is gone it makes a long loud grinding clicking noise when I push the starter button. Even after I let go of the starter switch it still cranks for a few seconds. Although if the bike gets warmed up it starts without a problem. I did a little diagnosis on it before I had to go to the Slavezone. I thought maybe the battery was weak but after I hooked up the battery charger it did the same thing just with more power. I hope its not a starter those things are ridiculous! Four and some change from rocky mountain atv/mc.
