Hello from the UK was created by t0ne
Hello all, I've recently picked up a lovely 1977 KZ1000 LTD that was imported into the UK in the early 90's. I think it's had a few tweaks over the years and needs a bit of love as it's not quite running right yet. I rode it the 100 miles or so home from where I bought it and it was lacking power and wouldn't idle below about 2000rpm. I've been wanting a big Z for years and am looking forward to bringing it back into tip-top condition :)

Perhaps the engine is combusting on just two of its four cylinders.

May start the COLD engine, and after a few seconds of running, spray water mist onto the four exhaust header pipes (using a common household sprayer).

When a cylinder is combusting, the water will instantly vaporize and sizzle off the pipe.

When a cylinder is NOT combusting, the water will just run down the pipe.

The results of the water spray test may aid further diagnosis.

Good Fortune! :)

Good idea not thought about spraying water on the headers - nice simple idea, thanks.
