New guy with a 750 Spectre
13 Jul 2012 14:22
Hey guys, I picked up a 750 Spectre (83) about a month ago for $1500 and have been digging through these forums for the past couple weeks gathering information. Figured it was time to actually make an account. I'll get some pictures in here once I get home, but overall the bike's in decent condition. Seems mostly to be original, or at least oem style replacements. And it had new carb boots! Which is nice since those always seem to cause problems for everyone.

Alright, as promised, here's some pictures:
And the only thing I've found so far that's kinda sketchy:
I'll admit it's a clever fix, I assume he stripped the threading in the head there, so I'll by cutting off that stud there and then tapping the head so I can properly fix it, it's definitely not sealed all the way at the moment.
I also had an oil leak around the head, and one day could swear I felt exhaust gas escaping when the engine warmed up, but everyone seemed to think these bikes had tough head gaskets, so I retorqued it first, since that seemed to be a regular suggestion here, and it seems to have done the trick.

Never noticed that limp turn signal before, I'll have to fix that.
