Hi! Former lurker here...

Been lurking here a long time, not too frequently until the last couple weeks as I chased down an ignition problem, rewired a bunch of stuff, and planned some upgrades... sigh.
Lot of cool stuff in this place, some really badass bikes, stock and otherwise
I had a kz400 in high school, 1986 or so, purchased for $400 from a custodian at the school. I rode it everywhere, in all weather, and as fast as possible at all times. (I am a very experienced rider now, but that came from stupid youth and young bones.)
I replace a couple levers and turn signals on that bike but I learned. I polished and lovingly worked on that bike until it broke my heart one night, WOT on an open road at 4 in the morning as fast as it would go, going home from a girls house with a dumb smile on my face zzzZZZZTTTDEADDDDDdddd. valve. A farmer gave me a ride home, and I bought him breakfast. Bike was DNR.

Fast forward. A perfect one owner 3000 mile '82 csr1000 that I had for well over a decade, traded to a cousin when I got married, who still has it.

I got un-married. A honda dream enters garage. Then another. Cool, but kinda weak, antique, and unique to be riding much. Kinda afraid to ride, one is OE 3000 miles.
In December an '81 LTD, the purple one. Better.
Just got this beauty with some chrome and an 1075 slightly built engine, Z1 carbs, a few goodies. I love it like a woman. The sport bikes are looking when they hear it, the harley guys are trying not to until they have to look at my brake light. ROAR. Love it.

I still sometimes look at kz400's on ebay.
And 440's....

Thanks for that info! Found him, and read the history a lttle. I got it a few weeks ago, pictures don't do justice. Is a great guy, got a GREAT deal. It is a NICE bike, a head turner, I have several small projects planned for the winter already : )
And now I can resto the 81 perfectly, and at my leisure :laugh:

I actually had my bike sold to buy it but he declined sale before my sale went through so I also backed out on my sale.

yours is BA BTW :woohoo: . Is there a link to photos or build? Not sure of the timing, I hope I didn't scoop it from you but I was looking for parts for the 81 to do something like this, and knowing what I was looking at spending I knew the value in the price of this one and bought it pretty quick on EBAY. I was pretty surprised at the shape. Actually this is a lot more than I would have done, so I feel pretty fortunate about getting the deal I did as it will allow me to do a few more things to it and, as mentioned, keep a stocker with 13k stock.

Not much of a build thread, this was kind of a quick build but the only thing left from what I started with is the paint, frame and lower of motor.
