Hey all. Just wanted to introduce my self. I recently purchased a a 77Kz650. This bike was originally purchased new by my since passed uncle. He died in a drug/booze motorcycle accident in the late 70s.The bike was sold to a neighbor of ours and was barely ridden over the next few years. My father purchased it back when I was in my teens and I rode it for a short time in my late teens. Again it was sold off again in 96 and was only ridden twice and was put in a garage untill last week when I was able to purchase it back off the man my dad sold it to for $200.00. It has not ran since 96 and its going to need tons of tlc to get it close to as nice ans it was when when my Dad had it. Any suggestions or thing to look for with a bike that has sat this long?

Since it sat that long I would definitely change the oil & filter before hitting the starter button. Ed

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationOK. Your bike is a 1977 KZ650-C1. You need to buy the Kawasaki Service Manual as it will save you $$$$$, blood, sweat, tears, and time. Here's one on eBay that should contain the C1 data. If you decide to buy a different one be sure to check first with the seller to ensure the back cover states it covers the KZ650-C1 because there are some things that are unique to that model. You really cannot live with these bikes without the service manual. Ed

Wow, from the photos it great! Nowhere near as bad as you described it. I see surface rust on the chrome, but that comes off easy with some mothers mag and aluminum polish. Cosmetic wise it doesn't look bad at all. As 650ed stated, your FSM is your first step. You will most likely need to have the carburetors cleaned unless it was stored devoid of fuel. You will need a set of new tires. Don't be fooled by their appearance. If they are older than 5 years, they need to be changed. They are the only thing between you and the road going 70+ mph. You don't want to trust your life to old tires. Congrats on getting your bike back.

I see that manual I mentioned is still on eBay. The ones like that which include the C-1 do not grow on trees. It took me a looong time to find one for my bike.
