Back on KZR...Will re-introduce myself was created by reborn650
Hey Gang. It has been nearly 4 years since I was last on board here at KZR. Hopefully some of the old gang is still around as I get ready to roll out my old girl for the first time in 4 years.

For those who are new or haven't seen my here before here is my old ride, a 1977 Kz650 Custom which was bought new in Ontario Canada by my older brother Kevin back in 1977. He had traded a 1975 RD 350 Yamaha for it.

Long story but I bought it from him, drove it for a couple of years then sold it. Sadly Kevin passed away at age 30 and about 10 years later I tracked it down as a basket case. My young son and I decided to put her back on the road as a tribute to Kevin. We re-did every nut and bolt and first put it back on the road with a 700 kit/candy red, GPz style paint job and then a couple years later decided to go balls to the wall with a full twist on the performance side of things while creating a nice little sleeper with a stock looking Moondust Silver paint job. The 650 side covers are still on the bike :-)

Here is the bike in its current incarnation. I have attached a pic of my aboard her back when I ran it at the 1/8 mile drags in 2007. Have a friend who owns a stock, well-tuned ’77 Kz1000 and he says my little 810 will outrun his bike up to about 60 mph.

14,000 miles on the chassis, engine bottom end
810 Wiseco (1980 jugs) on the stock 650 bottom end.

Gpz750 intake valves, cams, 900 drag bike springs, APE cam tensioner
650 head ported and polished
Dyna ignition
Mikuni 29 Smoothbores (prepped by wiredgeorge)
Barnett Clutch, MAC pipe,
LTD front fender, painted instrument cluster, step down seat, braided steel brake lines,
14 tooth front sprocket, Bridgestone Spitfires, Superbike bars,

I will keep everyone posted and get a pic up here on KZR after my first run to iron out the bugs and re-torque everything.

Cheers – Colin Firth – Ontario Canada

Hey Colin, welcome back! I wondered where you disappeared to, or if you ever got that electrical gremlin figured out.
Check out the flag relay; not sure if you still have the SSN, but it would make a great story. B)

Hah, yup, good memory Leon. I have matured since then and now wear the pigskin leather instead of sitting atop it. Anyhow that old swine ride is probably now a side....of bacon!
Cheers-Colin

Welcome back.

I seem to remember the avatar as well. From the old version forum days as well? I guess I lurked here for a long time before ever contributing much...

Any chance you are the Colin Firth of South Side Story fame?

Cheers,

Jon

Wow Jon....that's correct. Usually I get asked if I am the English actor (same name...) who won the Academy Award.
Still running South Side Story and also have another venture called mysendoff.com which is a site where people can learn all about funeral life celebrations and plan their own personalized sendoff through our site. We are the largest funeral site on the 'net and since everyone is eventually going to check out, anyone and everyone can use our free service and we hope everyone sticks around a long long time :-)

Cheers-Colin

Small world then. I grew up next to the Behrens' and still make a point of saying hello whenever I am back in town. Never did see that KZ around town, but I will certainly keep my eyes peeled for it if I am back this summer.

Haven't read a copy of South Side Story in a long time, but I did move away 8 or 9 years ago, so perhaps thats no big surprise. I'lll try and track down a copy when I next visit my folks, always good to get back to the old stomping grounds.

Cheers,

Jon
