Hi Kzriders, I am new to the forum and to Kawasaki. I saw a local ad with a 83 gpz550 for sale, after test riding. The power delivery is very smooth. I guess it's because I came from a twin. Sv650 03

She's got some work done by the previous owner. But needs a good tune. I hope to learn to tune the carb from the forum. currently has dynojet stage 3, pod filters, and 4 to 1 vance and hines exhaust(it has the label on the muffler).

after some more riding, I notice she's a bit unstable at low speed around 20mph. feels like sitting on a small boat. I was a little bit discouraged after discovering that. I didn't notice it when i test rode. What could the cause of it?

Can anyone tell me which KZ the gpz550 share parts with? I need to buy a stator cover(right side). Or which model can be cross referenced?

I think i will save the questions the tech forums.

Sweet bike! Kawasaki.com has parts diagrams for all their bikes including which parts are shared across which models.

I owned one of those from 83 to 88. I don't recall any ill handling at any speed.

OK. I think i found the cause of unstable ride at low speed.

The front tire was at 55psi, rear tire 10 psi...

I'm a little confused as to which cover you need since you said you need a stator cover but you also said right side. As you are sitting on the bike the stator is the left side cover is that what you need or are you talking about the points cover? If it is a point cover you need that cover is used on the 550's 650's and the 750's so it's pretty easy to come by. If you need the stator cover I've got a couple laying around here. They would be from a 550 LTD so they are polished but they could easily be painted black and would work just fine.

Yea, I got myself confused too. I need the point cover. The one on the right side as I am sitting on the bike.

Thanks for the heads up. I will try ebay. But if you have a point cover laying around. It'd be helpful too.
