Hello from New Mexico

Hello to all my name is William but you all can call me TheBlueMax. I will respond to Blue and also Max if you would like to use those names also. I'm 44 and a family man who has a passion for kz's and other old school jap bikes but mainly kz's. I ride a 1976 Kawasaki KZ900 ltd B1 that I am building into a street-fighter. I ride with a social club here in New Mexico called the Ruff Ryders. The group mainly ride crotch rockets and we are a worldwide social click with over 200,000 members. I would like to think that I am the only member who rides a kz but I don't know that for sure. Can't wait to hear from you all, here are some pics of my bike and I just had a new custom seat made for the old girl, hope you all like.

Welcome Max! Do you have a J-model head on your LTD?

If it has tits or tires, it'll give you problems!

This is what the head looks like on my '76 KZ. Mine is not an LTD model, but the engines were identical between the A and B models [you have a B model, an LTD].

So J model is a good thing and I should never give up this engine? The reason why I ask is because I am having a engine built for me out of Skokie, Illinois by RedLine Cycle and they want my engine as a core deposit after they send me my new engine.

Actually, you don't have a J model head...your bike is a later B model (LTD). Please confirm the year of both the engine and frame on www.zedder.com . This will answer which motor you have in the bike. Be careful which motor you trade away to Redline...you may have something desirable already (e.g. later 1015cc motors had 16 pin cranks and strengthening in the cases).

You sure? Didn't the LTD's have the same engine as the standard KZs?

Yeah...but that is the later head found on 1979/80/81 model A/B/C 1015cc bikes. A quick ID of the J model valve cover is different...J model valve covers had a bolt on the end of the valve covers.
