Vin confusion

I bought a Kz550 and the frame vin starts out as "kz500c-" but the confusion begins when I looked at my engine vin that starts "kz550ae-". I had to file for a lost title because the bike was bought from a salvage yard. The frame vin pulled up the previous owner info. Can someone help to tell me why my vins do not match?

That motor was not originally in that frame would be my first thought, beyond that is beyond me :huh:

hesh.monster is correct...the motor was a later addition....technically, you bought a 500 with a 550 motor. Not sure where you are, but the Z500 bikes were never sold in North America.

EDIT: Just checked the Kawasaki info I have and Kawasaki does not list a KZ500C model, only a B model. Are you sure the frame VIN doesn't say KZ550C?

I double checked the frame vin is 550, sorry. Does that mean that the motor might be the original even though it says 550a?

Yes. Kawasaki commonly used motors from the same VIN series in different models.
