Hello, Howdy, Hola

Hey all,
So I just went out and picked up a 1977 KZ1000 LTD a couple days ago. It has ~20K on the bike with a rebuilt engine that has about 300 miles on it. It's in good shape for its age. Sat in a barn for 15 years. The only major flaw so far is that it is missing the left hand side cover. Sounds great right. The only problem is that I live in Montana and it's winter, so I'll have to wait to get my riding fix.

Otherwise I'm into home brewing, hang gliding, picking the banjo, and being outside

I haven't taken any pics yet. this was from the sale ad, and the bike still looks the exact same except that it is now missing the driver side cover

Well, congrats on your good fortune!
The side covers were once as rare as hen's teeth but now repro's are easy to find. Give Z1Enterprises a look-see and best of luck!

Congrats on your find. I understand the frustration of not being able to ride in the winter. Today would have been a great day to ride in Colorado (55 deg) but there's still so much ice on the streets that I'm too chicken.

My suggestion is to get a Factory Service Manual, do all the required maintenance, check over, clean and/or replace any electrical connections that look hinky so when the snow melts (that's about May in Montana, right?) you are ready to roll!

Welcome...I second getting a genuine Kawasaki shop manual (eBay it if you are interested)...and if you decide to go for non-stock pipes (4into1, etc.), hold on to your OEM pipes.

That's a clean looking ride! Finds like that are getting harder every day, do as the others have suggested, get a manual and go through it, got all winter. Oh, and welcome on board.

Hey guys thanks for the welcome. I feel lucky to have found the bike, and I think it's evident from the fact that I live in Montana and bought a motorcycle in the middle of winter that I got a great find.

The bike came with a 'Clymer' service manual. I've been thumbing through it, and it seems like it will be a great help, other than the fact that the index doesn't really match up.

As of now I don't have any big plans for the bike. Keeping the pipes, will pick up a side cover eventually. Other than that I am thinking of picking up a 'viper cafe fairing'.

Yeah, the weather has been 'warm' here recently too, but the roads are still slicked up enough that I don't want to push it.
