New to the site, I just recently became a KZer wit my purchase of a 1978 KZ1000 Z1-R. I plan to do some work on this bike and make it a daily rider:

Welcome to KZR! I'm here in Spring. Actually I'm here all year long, in Spring (Texas.) :P Just north of Houston. We do have some funny names for towns in Texas. Looks like a solid bike, and a model that I wouldn't mind owning.

welcome joe.

i am really digging the amount of z1r's that we are getting on this site lately.
you look to have a pretty complete example.
have you been looking for a z1r or just stumble on a good deal on a kz and it happend to be a z1r?

either way you have the foundation for an awesome old muscle bike that will make people that you have never seen before come right up and talk to you.

I was looking for a Cafe style bike, or really more of what they now call a street fighter. I also have been wanting to move up to a Liter bike, as my other two are 600 and 800 respectively. Back in High school a friend got into riding and started with a 440 LTD, and i always want a KZ series bike since then. To make a long story short, my wife was looking at bikes on Craigslist (eat your heart out guys, she's MINE!)and spotted this diamond in the rough. WHen she pointed it out to me, she siad. this is a cool bike, is it one we should get? At $1200, once I determined that it wasn't a scam, and that seller had a title in hand, I went over immediately and bought it. Had brand new Dunlops on and fired on the first kick, and once I got a new battery it fires up straight away from the electric as well.

Needs paint badly, brakes are shot - I did install a re=build kit on the rear so those are working again, some minor electrical issues and needs a carb rebuild - runs but is WAY too rich and dribbles gas out the overflow when shut off. All in all the perfect project!
