Happy to be a member.... was created by KraZ900
I have been reading this forum more than any other. I like what I see. I recently bought my first "street bike" I've ridden dirtbikes all my life and always wanted to get a road bike. I scored a a 76 KZ900 LTD for 700 bucks. It needs help. I test drove it and it ran like crap. I bought it anyways. I noticed the power just wasn't there, I drove it 20 miles home. Thought maybe the carbs needed rebuilt, so I dumped some seafoam in the tank. It helped a little but not much so I pulled all the plugs #2 was fouled bad so I put all fresh plugs in it, and the thing just opened up first tap on the starter the motor idled at 3200rpm so I backed the idle down quick! God I couldn't believe they made a bike this fast in 76! I adjusted the tension on the cam chains, thanks to this site, and it ran a little better but started to stutter so I threw a timing light on it, another thanks to this site. it was way off adjusted the points. and the it just keeps getting better and better. The tubes on the air box were cracked and in bad shape so I just ordered some pod filters and slapped those on and the motor just grunts. I have a slight tick on the right cam so I have an appointment to get the cam clearances checked and adjusted.
Cosmetically the bike isn't that great. Its missing the upper rear fender, got one on ebay coming. The paint needs help and there are some wiring issues so basically the bikes on switch is bypassed. It did have an older 4-1 exhaust which I took the muffler apart and cut the chambers out and put in a perforated pipe and fiberglass wrap, and stuffed it back in. I like the new throaty sound. I wish I would have taken pictures of the process, but the way I was thinking if I'm going to streetfighter this bike I'm going to change the muffler anyways. Muzzy's is a mile from me and I know the manager:)
Now old looking bikes aren't entirely my style but I do love this bike. I'm definitely looking for a salvage zx or something I do love the street fighter style. I will be posting images soon.

Just so you know, KZ900LTD's are a fairly rare bike. I won't chastise you if you want to modify it. I'm in the dowhatchalike camp since it's your bike, but I didn't want you to chop it only to find out later that it could have been a valuable bike. That said, welcome to KZR! We need some pictures. You are on probation until you post some pictures. :P

Yeah I know the value difference. Its about double the price of a normal KZ, but if I do chop the bike it will make all of the other LTD's more valuable and rare. So I'm doing everybody, that likes to keep bikes original, a favor.;) adding photos at lunch break. (from my phone)

Go for it man! I just didn't want you to have that Oh Sh!t moment later on when you realized that you killed the value of a potential collector bike. I feel like motorcycles should be ridden, not kept in glass cases.

Congrats on your find and welcome to the forum!

I have nightmares of people scoring a barn-find bike, with a Yosh or something on it, then chopping it up or discarding it or something... Not you personally, just a general fear of mine.

Looks like a solid bike to start with. I know that a picture can conceal a lot of small flaws. Do start a project thread and post your progress as you find time.

Whatcha building? Looks like a job site in the background to me.
