Hey All,
Another 're-entry' rider here. Picked up an '81 KZ1000 LTD about 2 months ago, and getting back in the saddle. Same old story - wife, kids, no $$$$, actually listened to the wife way back then for some ungodly reason.... and sold my '83 Honda V45 Sabre. It was a runnin' son of a gun!
Long story short, 20 yrs later, the economy forced me to take a job up in the 'big city' and pretty much close my own shop down. Told the little woman if I was putting on 110 miles a day, part of it is gonna be on a bike! Much wailing, moaning, gnashing of teeth, etc., and a check on the life insurance policy later, shock was in order when I pulled up with the KZ.
Getting my riding legs back, after a couple of weeks, and damn, it feels good again! The perfect stress relief on the ride home!
Anyway, came on here looking for some info on electrical systems, as my new friend (or POS as wifey so fondly calls her! I think she's jealous....:P ) decided to strand me after working a 12 hr day. The speedo went out, and then 10 miles later, the headlight, on a nice, pitch black sideroad, 15 miles from home.... Thankfully, I was only doing about 35, or the pucker factor might have been quite a bit higher!!!
Anyway, after some browsing, I decided that this looks like a good place to hang out for awhile, learn some shtuff, and mebbe even contribute some mechanical/machinist type knowledge. At least on a good day!
Now fer that damn headlight.....

Welcome 2ezgoin, glad you made it here, and home. For your immediate needs, search for posts from MFOLKS. He has posted some good electrical trouble shooting guides.

Re-entered riding about eight years ago, and have never regretted it (she rides too so that makes it easier).

Good luck,
Jim

Welcome i know what you mean about losing head light at night it always happen at night dark road far from home always carry spare. I had a problem years back bulb was lose and vibrating when engine revved up. Look into headlite while revving engine to see if it moves. It drove me crazy for a while till i realized what was happening. Fixed the problem with silicone. Good luck Ron

Welcome.
+1 for MFolks. He's definitely the guy to talk to.
Any chance you just blew a fuse? If you're running the glass tube fuses, sometimes they don't actually look like they're blown. You actually have to test them with a volt meter to see. I'm rebuilding my bike and putting in a blade fuse set up to eliminate that issue.

Open head lite pull connections apart look to see if lose or corroded clean with contact spray then put dielectic compond start there. If blown fuse look for short or broken wire.
