New rider/mechanic Buffalo, NY

I've recently taken the Motorcycle Safety Course, loved riding and purchased my first motorcycle - 1983 KZ750F1 Shaft driven - motorcycle the other day. I am absolutely way over my head. I have very little knowledge working with bikes but I am determined and interested in learning a lot more, which is why I decided to pick this bike up. It has only 4K miles, does not leak oil/gas, and used to run good using the running start (I did something wrong). I apologize for my persistent questioning and thank everyone ahead for your help.

I'll post pictures soon.

Hi, please elaborate on that "running start" is the battery dead? And you roll it along and pop the clutch? With the ignition on? Up in 3rd or 4th gear? Too bad you did not live in San Fransico, you could drive up a hill and stop. Then you could start it by rolling down that hill.
But you live in Buffalo, "sorry to hear that"
Guess what? I live in Buffalo too! I had to throw that in. I have been told that many times.
Just like no one knows what ice tea and vodka is either, outside of western NY. In Myrtle Beach, Florida or on a Carnival cruise ship

Oh well just ranting, want a 1977 KZ1000? It starts!

Marty in Buffalo
Livin in "CheektaVegas, NY
Went thru 25 of these in 40 yrs.
I SOLD OUT! THE KAW BARN IS EMPTY.
More room for The Old Girl, Harley 75 FLH Electra Glide,
Old faithful! Points ign. Bendix Orig. carb.
Starts everytime!

That's Buffalo alright; drink beer, eat beef on wick, and ride to artpark on motorcycles but unfortunately I do not have a working starter clutch or starter. I can't have another motorcycle unless its a charity drive for college kids. I have to get this baby up on the road. She only has 4k miles and I'm yearning to saddle her up.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationYou need this:

The factory service manual will help you through all of your current and future issues on this bike. Fix the starter clutch issue and get caught up on maintenance. You should have a solid bike at that point. Welcome to KZR!

PS good call on the rider's safety course. It will serve you well.

A big +1 on both of testarossa's recommendations!
