New member/old motorcycle

I just picked up a 83 1100 Spectre. It needs a bit of work, but nothing I can't handle. I ve never owned an inline 4 motorcycle before. Its been fun so far. I ordered a new battery, this one has a date of 2000 stamped on it. The front brake doesn't function hardly at all. And the mirrors are aftermarket and vibrate so much,they are useless. So I will be looking in the various forums for help in these areas. Including either a downloadable factory manual, or a hard copy.

I've trusted the factory shop manuals over the others(Clymer,Chilton & Haynes).

ok, another question about mirrors, anybody got an idea how to keep the mirror from going wherever it wants to go, i am constantly moving it back, it rides on a single ball, maybe squirt some thin glue in there?
