Hi I'm Colin From Australia

Had many bikes over the last 40 years but this Z1100A 1981 is my first Kawasaki. I bought her from a breakers 2 years ago and have been rebuilding her since. I wanted to keep its patina so have only done period modifications and accessories. I have built a tow bar as well as a camper/trailer as I want to do some touring again but I'm over the sleeping on the ground bit and am too stingy to cough up for hotels.
This forum is going to be usefull as I have already discovered other members experiencing the same problems I have had/ am having during the rebuild. Carbs and ignition plus the odd wiring gremlin. Good to know I'm not alone. I have found Z1 Enterprises very helpfull for my parts

Well I'm 52 and live in Wollongong (100k's south of Sydney) Australia. I found this old girl at a motorcycle wrekers in Sydney and just took a real shine to her. At last a real bike that does not pretend to be anything except a universal Japanese Motorcycle. Big Comfy & flexible. She ran ok but leaked fuel from the fuel tap and carburettors. Everything was there and the shocks held air. There was a ratty 4into1 exhaust but otherwise stock. Got her home and regoe'd then took her for a ride, buggar the carbies blocked up with rust. Cleaned the fuel tank, buggar the paint came off, so decision was made to paint her and fix her up into a bit of a tourer. So I then decided I'd like to tour and camp in this great country of ours so I built a camper to tow behind the bike. That meant a towbar/hitch. What nothing available! Ah well make something else close fit. (Yamaha XJ1200)
Rebuilt the top end, redid the carbies, sealed the tank, adapt a replica CX500 Turbo honda fairing, adapt a GPZ1100 oil cooler, after market rack and topbox and some soft throw overs and she's ready.
I have orned 3 RZ500 Yamahas, Various Bevel Drive Ducatis', 2 Honda CX500's & a 650, Yamaha YDS7, Yamaha FJ1200, MuZ Skorpion 660 Sport Cup, Suzuki 70 modified for dirt, Bultaco SherpaT, Honda Cb350 (1970) and XL500 x 2, Yamaha IT425,Yamaha YZ80A, Yamaha TT350, Honda 50 stepthru, and I think there was a Suzuki T20 Hustler in there as well, and the bike that started it all was a '55 NSU Quickly moped.

That Camper trailer looks like the Taj Mahal! Great set up for touring. I wonder how much that trailer weigh's? Have you looked at your clutch plates and considered putting in new springs? That would be a good idea I think. I've got the 10% stiffer springs in my 1000 LTD that I have the bags and fairing on, also 1 tooth up on countershaft sprocket. Towing that trailer would test the clutch.
I also run synthetic oil in my Shafties final drive, that would also be a good idea with that load on it.
Got to love that Beautiful area you live in, lots of places to tour around. The Caravan and Camping lifestyle is a very good way to get out and see the country, and meet lots of friendly people from around the world. :)

The '55 is much modified and done as a streeet machine with 400 small block, turbo 400 & 9", but it also has a HQ front chassis graft with power steering, disc brakes al roud and air conditioning. Built to use but it has also won a few trophies in its time. The Z1100 is running great now after I rebuilt the carbies. The exhaust is a 4 into 1 of unknown origin, but I would like a twin system as thats just my preferance.
