Hey All,

Thanks for allowing me to the group. I'm here in Salt Lake City, Utah.

I recently sold my 1997 BMW 1100RT and picked up a cheap 1980 KZ750 as an alternative ride. The bike seems to be mechanically sound and hopefully bulletproof; it only has 12,000 original miles. Cosmetically, the bike is a disaster... rattlecan paint job, torn seat, cheap LED blinkers, etc. When I started pulling the bike apart - to repaint the tank and reupholster the seat - I was sad to see that the previous owner had chopped the back end of the frame; I think he was attempting to create a Superman themed bobber (side plates had poorly painted Superman logos) which doesn't make sense since the bars are cafe racer.

My goal with the bike is to turn it into a classic cafe racer with as many original parts are possible. Right now, I'm trying to figure out what to do with the seat since I'm worried the bucket seat is not original and isn't the look I'm going for. Unfortunately, I'm not mechanically competent so hopefully I can rely on some group expertise.

Thanks all!
