Just settling in to the forum and hopefully be able to share in and learn from the collective knowledge out there.

Owned a Z1A since new (Dec 1974). Basically original, but a bit tired and I am part way through a full resto as cash flow permits. I will try and post some photos.

This resto has thrown up some curly problems which I will put out here in a later post.

Cheers from down under.

Always wanted to make it to the West side of OZ. Been around much of the Eastern half, and Was living in NSW. Good to see the addition to the forum, that bike looks really good. How far do you ride out of your area near Perth? Looks like a great place for Bikes!

Best roads around Perth are within 1-2 hrs in the hills to the east and south. North and further east is flat and open into farming country (where the kangaroos are!). To the west we fall into the sea.

It will be slow progress, but any info on the restoration I will gradually upload to the Project area.

The two small photos were taken on Christmas Day 1974 - one week after I bought the bike.

Cheers

1974, those pictures looked like awhile ago. Not much around in the background.
What did you pay for that back then? That was pre Dollars and still Pounds?
Do you have a good Aussie supplier for the parts you need, or do you order from the States/ Uk?

Motor Head,

Empty background - small country town I lived in at the time.

Bought new @ AUD$2000 approx. No idea of the exchange rate back then. We changed from pounds to dollars in 1966.

I get my parts wherever is the best source - US/Canada, UK/Europe and two suppliers here in Oz. Postage, handling and customs from overseas are a killer - usually more than the parts are worth!

Cheers

Lucky for me, when I was in NSW I could rely on my mates back in the states to forward on parts to me at decent shipping prices. Some of the companies still don't like international shipping, PITA. So a trusted mate in the USA is a could way of getting what you need sent at a cheaper cost.
That 2K back then was still a very good deal, sounds like. I think the AUD was strong back then, even better than now.
Keep the wheels up, and if on the piss then stay off the bike. :P

Nice zed Russel,
Im in Brisbane, I bet there was nothing like it when you first bought her. Zed 1 was KING!!
If you are after parts I find that z1enterprises are really good both price and delivery, parts are normally her within 5 days.
