New here from Memphis, found the link in DTT forums.

Picked up a 1980 750G yesterday for $260 with title. Nearly complete and needing some electrical attention and 25,000 miles.

After adjusting the points I finally got a very weak spark on one cylinder so I think the coils are shot. I found these new coils on ebay and the list includes my bike:
coils on ebay...

What do you guys think? Any experience with these?

Not sure but they look a little more than half the price of z1.

Hi Mitchell, welcome to KZR! I would suggest that you call Z1Enterprises before you pull the trigger on that ebay auction. As martin_csr suggested, the Dyna coils are an excellent replacement with really good customer service. I have seen a similar coil to the one listed sold in pairs for the 4 cylinder bikes at Z1E. Sometimes I don't find everything on their website, but they are always delightful to speak with on the phone, and can advise you of all your options as far as coils go.

However, before you go buying coils, use a multimeter and check that you are getting full battery voltage at your coil. It's quite possible that you have some faulty wiring that is leading to your weak spark. It's just one thing to rule out before you spend any money. You might be replacing a good coil, and still have the problem if there is just some corrosion on a terminal causing a low voltage condition.

So after a lot of wire tracing and testing... it seems that the replacement ignition switch that the PO put on it isn't exactly compatible with the bike. Yes... it plugs right in to the harness but ONE important wire isnt getting any juice. I think after I either replace the switch or re-solder the wire my $260 bike will be a lot closer to starting B)

So I soldered a couple wires across terminals on this wrong ignition switch the PO put on it so everything is getting juice that need juice now.

I set the timing and points, shot some starting fluid in and it started up on one cylinder after a few cranks.

I pulled the carbs off today and fiddled with the right carb and got it running on both cylinders now but it's going to need the carbs cleaned and rebuilt to be good.

My drag bars came in so I put them on. I took that gallon airbox out of the frame and put some pod filters on it that I had lying around.

I pulled the plastic inner fender out and it looks like I can chop several inches off the tail section to shorten it up a bit and make more rear tire visible and there are already tabs I can move the turn signals to.

Will post some updated pics when I get a chance but I have a plane ticket to Sacramento on the 16th and then will drive up to northern California with my girlfriend to visit some of her family and friends for two weeks. Then a road trip back to Memphis with camping along the way. B)

Oh ya, do you see that how the lower shock mounts are attached to chrome brackets attached to the swingarm? I don't see those on other bikes and wondering if they were added at some point to lower the bike and soften the rear suspension maybe?

Tail chopped off, drag bars added, replaced the airbox with pod filters, and removed the front fender.
