Just want to say THANKS!
05 Apr 2011 23:35
I've been coming to this site off and on for several years now. I've been turning wrenches since I was able to, but it was usually on a figure 8 race car or other 4 wheeled vehicle. So since I've become a proud owner of a molested Z1, :woohoo: I've started learning a wealth of information about working on these bikes. All in all, principles are the same between working on carb'ed bikes and cars, but then again there are so many differences. So, I have about a month and a half before I ship out again and my mission is to get the bike road worthy and get some miles on it before I leave. BTW, I'm active Army. With all that being said, I just want to say thanks for all of the valuable information! I just checked valve clearance for the first time. Then I stumbled on to the article about using a zip tie instead of the valve hold down tool. AWESOME! First time GO. Until next time..............

Found the zip tie info here -
kzrider.com/forum/2-engine/431091-poppin...inder-w-video#433450
. I also had one valve where the shim was to tight and I didn't have enough clearance to remove the shim. I attached some duct tape to the end of the zip strip just to give a bit more clearance. Worked great. Make sure the tape is secured well so when you pull the zip strip out, it doesn't fall off into the combustion chamber.
