New from Ohio
09 Mar 2011 12:02
Hello everybody,
I just got a running 1982 KZ750 Spectre yesterday. I go to school in Bowling Green, Ohio and graduate in May.
The bike needs tires, guages, and turn signals. I replaced the start/stop hand control, but there is about an 1/8th inch gap. Any ideas how to fix this?
My last two questions, what battery should I go with? And are guages interchangable? Will a 1978 set work on my bike?
Thanks in advanced

Hi kp, welcome to the forum, also nice looking bike. One suggestion, get a factory manual before you do anything. They are great for checking everything out on the bike. Parts are readily available on eBay as is a manual. Just shop around all the listings and I'm sure you'll find what you need. Some of the KZ650 parts are the same, switches, controls, signals gauges etc. You have the electronic factory ignition on that bike as well as the diaphragm type carbs. First thing needed is a good battery, then all the other stuff can be checked to see if they are up to par. Good luck with the bike, from a fellow Ohioan (35mi East of Cleveland). Bob

The handlebars are 7/8ths inch, not a full 1 inch. If I am correctly understanding you...
Welcome - stay, enjoy.

Ah also, yes, agred. Get a service manual.

Some bikes had handlebars that were drilled and the controls have little nubs that locate into the bars to position the controls and helps keep them in place. See if yours are like this. You might have to Dremel off the nub. It's easier than drilling a new handlebar. Just look for the nub where the control clamps to the bat. Other than that you do need 7/8 bars and not 1 inch. Nice bike. I like them shaftie Spectres.
Take it from me cuz I found

Welcome aboard, Good looking bike. You can check at
www.bikerbandit.com
and to see what parts are the same. I have a 80 KZ1000 LTD with 76 speedo and tack. The 76KZ has the same speedo gear as the 80KZ (Same part number) from a fellow Ohioan 150 miles south. Hillsboro, Ohio.

Can somebody help me out with this? I dont think just any set of gauges will work, there is no tach cable or even a place for one. So I guess I'm going to need to have a KZ750N set of gauges?
