Got my first bike! Well....second? was created by ETC2K10
Hey guys (and girls?) I just picked up my first bike! I got a 1982 KZ 750. I dig it! And, the kid I got it off of started it up. It runs well and all! I got it home. and have been trying to start it up for some time. The push button starter's not working so I have to kick start it. Can't get it going but think I solved that problem! NEVER turned the petcock to let gas FLOW! Hahaha!

Yes, several lady members.
Which model 1982 KZ750 -- twin or which of several 4 cyl?
For example, 4 cylinder LTD came stock with a vacuum operated petcock that automatically flows fuel when the engine's running, and has no specified "off" position.
Or maybe only the PRI (no vacuum required) position is functioning to allow fuel flow through the petcock.
Perhaps the petcock has been replaced with a manual (non-vacuum) version petcock, which has OFF-ON-RES positions.
One general rule when first cranking a cold engine is to not touch the throttle while cranking over the engine (kick or electric) so that the carbs remain closed at lowest idle position, which is where the choke (enrichener) circuit is designed to function.
Good Fortune!

Welcome to the forum man!
Is the start button not working because the battery is dead from you cranking it and it not starting because lack of fuel???
Maybe charge the battery and she'll fire.

Nah, as far as I know, the push button broke when it "fell" apparently. As did the front headlamp which the previous owner replaced with a Ducati setup. It does have a petcock that has 3 positions. However, I'm still having difficulties getting it going. Is there a way to "jump" it? Also, is there a reference guide I can find online for this bike? I'd like to know what spark plugs and things are recommended. Also, I want to go through the whole bike and check all fluid levels and things like that.
