My 1st new bike was a 1981 650CSR
Man I really wished I could have afforded a 1000CSR
Anyway just this Sunday I go buy a 1980 1000LTD
on the way home I'm thinkin this aint the bike I really want.
So yesterday (Wednesday) I go buy a 1981 1000CSR
So I now have both of them :)
And yes they both run, the LTD will stay together,
while the CSR is gonna get a complete restore.
I've got a lot to learn and a lot to do!
Glad I found this place!
I'll be here daily reading, and or asking questions.
Really looking forward to that BRAND NEW 1000CSR 30 years later ;)
BTW I'm located about 1 hour south of Chicago in the country.

Why a CSR, cause it's different and so am I ;)
30 years ago...5-6 of my buddys had KZ 650's
a few had 650 SR's
I walked in the dealer to buy one and saw the new CSR.
After a Kerker Header & a handle bar change and a few other
little mods it was very good lookin, ridein, sounding bike!
So why do you have a CSR? I hear it's just a cheaped down LTD ;)

Yep, some local help would be of great value
the LTD is gonna need a head gasket.
I'd like to find some hands on advice before I tear into it.
I do have a large shop that is well stocked with tools
just never tore into a KAW motor...
I'll be in the shop all day evaluating what I have...
I should get some pic's posted this evening.

I think the plan is to break the CSR down..completely,
and keep the LTD rollin while still doin some repairs to it.
The LTD seems to run fine, it does have a oil leak,
which appears to be a head gasket.
Anyway I got my hands full!

Although a leaking head gasket is often the first suspect, the leak source often proves to be from some other area.

May be leaking instead from tach drive shaft seal, or tach drive o-ring, or valve cover gasket, or past exhaust port gasket, or loose oil cooler line fitting (if applicable).

Could clean engine, allow to completely dry, cover all suspect areas with foot powder spray.

Start and run engine while closely observing where powder darkens due to oil leakage.

If it's indeed the head gasket, could re-torque the head (which may not help, but is worth a try).

Good Fortune! :)

Yeah, when I bought it the guy says he thinks it's leaking
from the T/O cable...yeah right!
I went to the car wash before I took it out of the truck.
Yes it was the T/O cable along with the head gasket!
I'll get it, just need to do some research before I pull it apart.
