Been riding bikes for 33 years and was a mechanic at a shop that specializes in KZ's for ten years.

Hopefully I can be of help to someone eventually. I'd post pics of my bike, but I just bought it and it's now in pieces as I check everything out from top to bottom. It needs paint pretty bad too, lol.

Gone are the days where I could pic up a KZ1000 with great paint and 5k on the odo for 1200 bucks... oh wait a minute, I just remembered I took a few pics before I tore it apart. I added a Renthal Pro-Taper low rise bar, clutch perch and lever from a EX 500, front master from a ZX600 IIRC.

Note the goofy front fender, that's going away as I just picked up a fender from 82 KZ650D from the local bike boneyard.

The first KZ1000 I ever rode was a 1977 and I'm pretty sure it was the same color as yours. It was owned by the sales guy at the dealership so it had the pods, Yosh pipe and who knows what else.

My Honda bone stock CB750K felt like a moped on the ride home.

Thanks everyone. It's a builder for sure. The guy I bought it from swore up and down that it was good to go, but it was missing a motor mount, cables were all dry and misrouted, was jetted pig rich for this altitude (I'm in Denver, CO), the shift lever was loose, the exhaust megaphone was loose, the petcock leaks, steering head bearings were notchy as hell, etc.

I had an almost identical KZ1000A about 20 years ago. Same color but the later serial number (made in USA). I probably paid too much but I had to have it.
