23 Aug 2010 15:53 - 23 Aug 2010 15:54
Hey my names matt and i new to the kzrider forums. I bought my kz400 about three years and got it on the road about two years ago. Ive modified the bike alot over that time. This winter i would like to break down the engine to do some possible head work. If need be i will replace the pistons and etc to. I wanna squeeze some a few extra ponnys out of my bike but keep it a daily driver. Its def getting new valves and all accompanying parts. What i need to know is what you guys suggest for replacement parts. Id like to get a new cam as well and would really appreciate any input on brand and what cam liftetc. u suggest.thank u for any info.

there isn't a really big aftermarket built up around these bikes it seems as if all the aftermarket companies concentrated on the big bikes you may be able to get web cam or megacycle to do a regrind for you but thats if only they have ever one in the past and still have the profiles on file. the place you will make the most power from and it's also the most labor intensive area is porting the cylinder head by the way the easist place to screw up if youget to wild.look at pm valves the have been in busness for ages they may have valves springs and guides but your probably with stock replacement pistons good luck and go crazy on the internet you never know what you may find. the main thing is just have fun with and it's amazing how much better a fresh engine runs over what you have now.

A few extra ponies?? I wouldn't recommend it until you get a front brake unless you plan to stop the bike Fred Flintstone style.

Im guessing i should just rebuild it to stock specs.
Its a city bike so i hardly get to go over 50 and in the end its my bike so its going to stay how i like.
