I used this site on my last bike (kz550) and got tons of info and resurrected a left for dead bike, sold it, and made some money. I was on here just lurking and never posted.
Now I've stumbled onto another left for dead bike. A 1979 Kz 1000 st (shaft driven). First experience with a shaftie. But it's Not in too bad a shape, but still needs alot of work. I'm shooting for having this on the road in late spring to early summer. I'm hoping to take it from Missouri to Connecticut and back.
So the fun begins. I used some penetrating oil to loosen the plugs and was successful with 2. The other 2 snapped! Now I am pulling the head off and taking a look at what I have.
Bike only has 10,424 original miles. and has sat for a while according to the previous owner. Left for DEAD!
The knuckle smashing, cursing, pissing an moaning begins.

Cool man, thanks for posting. We need some more shaftie projects here. I have seen a lot of those bikes for sale locally. Greenmeany has a cool project if you are into cafe racers. I look forward to seeing your progress.
