Welcome aboard!!! Not sure on my 1000 models, I'm a 650 guy, but she's not a bad looking ride!
As far as the gas leak, is it coming from the overflow on the carb? That would be the hoses running off the bottom of the float bowls. If so you're probably looking at either a dirty float seat or some improper float heights, neither of which is terribly difficult to correct with little or no expense.

Assuming there have been minimal changes to your bike, and I'm going on the photo...you have a 1981 KZ1000K1 LTD. Welcome aboard, Sean

thanks for the love on the bike! im in lusby, been here 23 years.
oh yea she has some plans, i def will be needing some help with what parts can and wont fit. i know alot of you on here have newer bike parts on your old cycles. but for starters......big bore when this motor goes, full paint and plastics (going for a cafe racer look), new chrome pipes, new swingarm/fat rear tire, new front end. thats pretty much it for now.
as for the carb prob i mentioned, i got the leaks to stop by turning the petcock to RES. of all things haha! so as long as i turn my gas off when im not riding im not losing a tank of high test at every break.
