New to the KZ Fam
17 Jun 2010 12:34
Hello ALL
Im new to the bike world but loving everthing about it
i never liked bikes UNTILLL i saw my 1st bobber! after that i knew i was gunna build one! after searching a bit i found a 1979 Kz750 runninng for 600 bucks! I starting read a bunch of post on this fourm and other fourms about how you just dont chop a pretty perfrctly running KZ and after a while of stareing at my KZ i started to agree. So as for bobbing a bike that'll have to wait and i'll enjoy my stock KZ insted!
Heres My KZ
I want to mod a few things, The seat i really want a corbin solo gunfighter seat, also sum smaller turn signals, drag bars, wrap the pipes, Paint job, remove that rear chrome lower fender, and replace the upper rear fender with that spoty one i keep seeing. <----(i dont what/how to do that also)
so thanks for any help and great site

Welcome to KZR! That bike looks like it's all there. I don't think that I would bob it, since it's complete and it runs. What's this "spoty" fender that you speak of? Do you have a picture of this fender? I'm with you on the seat. I would change that seat too.

I'm glad that you cleared that up. I can tell you with 100% certainty, that that fender will not fit your frame directly. I have a KZ1000 frame which that fender fits, and I accidently bought a fender from a KZ750 twin. It can be made to fit, but not without modifying. None of the mounting bolt locations are the same.
Just a suggestion. If it were my bike, I would try to find a flat seat or that Corbin that you speak of. Next remove the grab bar, and the chrome lower rear fender. Then you'll need to figure out a new license plate bracket, and then find a taillight that can be recessed into the exhisting upper fender. That gets you a long way to the look that you want without doing custom plastic body work to a KZ900/1000 fender. Just changing out that seat will have a huge impact, that thing is too big for the bike IMHO.

Welcome cooper1320...yep, you made a wise decision by retaining your bike, mostly stock...if you swap out fenders, etc, keep them...don't sell them.

Welcome to KZR Cudos for not hacking a stock bike. I think you will have to modify any type of duck tail you find. That one in the pic is a 900/1000 one which is slightly longer than the factory tail on a 650 which is shorter. Shouldnt be to hard to make work. Make sure you keep the stock parts that you remove.
Here is a pic of an RD350 I gave my brother a few years ago and he went the Cafe route. He grafted a seat and tail from a Kaw 500 triple to a bike that had no tail at all. He did it in a way that going back stock was a matter of changing out the parts.
If you look at all the different bikes out there and do a little research you can customize it to your taste without it looking butched up.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationcooper1320 wrote:
Clubman handle bar fit just fine when installed on KZ900-B1 LTD with oem barrel style master cylinder reservoir, with sufficient room between banjo bolt and tach, and without excessive space required underneath end of throttle grip tube. And with ample room from lock to lock without danger of hitting tank.
This was with the points facing upward (surprisingly close to standard angel wing bar position) -- not downward akin to clip-on positioning.
Unfortunately, an uncertain whether dimensions were exactly the same as those shown in the ebay listing. Would suspect differing dimensions from the various producers, same as with any handle bars.
The pic below is for reference and comparison with oem bars.
If preferred, Clubman bars are also available in chrome.
Good Luck!![:) :)](/media/kunena/emoticons/8.png)
