Hi mikeo.....

You got your work cut out for you, for sure.....but when you are finished and it's running.....you get those "warm fuzzies" and its all worth it!

So welcome aboard.....pick and search thru the filebase and old posts....LOTS of good info and tips in here. This is a great bunch of guys/gals.

sealing up bike with a plastic tarp is not a good idea condensation builds up under there and has no way to dry out,a cotton cover wont keep all the water out but it will allow some air to circulate to keep things halfway dried out.i used to be able to tell whos airconditioners i was going to have trouble with in the spring when i would see them all wrapped up in plasic in the winter.i always tell people if you really want to cover your a/c just cover the top and leave the sides open so air can circulate and keep things dried out inside! :whistle: goodluck,happy wrenching!

Just spent a day with the green beastie from the slime pit :sick: :sick: and she's looking pretty clean under it all. However, both wheel paint had it, calipers flaking, brake lines look dodgy, rear master cyclinder leaking, front master siezed?? (i think)and flaky paint,
clutch cable siezed (tried a spare and clutch is ok but bet she bites when I start her and engage a gear, oh fun) :woohoo: and the forks seals are shot, lifted the boots and there she blows

So good ol' Ebay in USA to grab some spares, so far so good. Just stuck for brake lines. over here they only produced a standard version of the KZ1100, low bars and a road stlye not a cruiser style. So brake lines are hard to find because of the extra length.
Some of the cosmetics are impossible to get for the spectre version, they had my model in the rest of europe but in very small numbers apparently. Found a German supplier who has some good bits but no brake lines. The hunt continues.
But good progress today, NO SLIME LEFT!!!!

Mikeo welcome to the site,am from the same side of the water as you just bit further north.I am more in to zed specials/race bike but a few weeks ago picked up a Scepter from a guy near Newcastle,its in not too bad condition,he had changed the handle bars for Z1 style bars and had Aeroquipe brake lines made up to suit the bike

great to make a contact over here, not heard from fellow SPECTRE owners in the UK, don't think there are to many around??
Yours looks in great condition, is it a US model or a european one?
indicators look different to mine as is the headlight surround.But colour the same, just in one piece

How does she run? the oil cooler looks very useful.
Looks like I will be phoning about some brake lines on monday :woohoo: :woohoo:

Hi Mikeo,the bikes not too bad its got its share of the old tin worm,it originally came from the States(Iowa) and was imported in 97 and has had the same owner up until I got her,she runs not too bad but needs the rubbers between the carbs and air box replaced(rock hard)so they will fit the carbs right,the oil cooler has been on the bike since 3000 miles,found the owners hand book under the seat and everything done to the bike up until 89 is noted.The indicators are cheap after market ones that you can get from www.mandp.co.uk/ ,hope the link works
