Got a KZ... coming by to say hello

This past weekend I bought a new (used) KZ550. It is a 1981 with 18,400 miles. It is in very good shape... though not quite as good as I thought. I did not look close enough, and found out when doing my Missouri safety inspection the sprocket is too worn to pass. Oh well, I am replacing the set (both sprockets and chain) and should be good and legal in no time. Carb has a small leak, I will be trying to flush it in the near future. I am not new to bikes, though this is the first older one I have picked up so I have not had to do a lot of troubleshooting before. I will stop rambling now, I am sure I will have questions which I will be most grateful for input from the veterans. Thanks, and ride safe.

Tires... brand new. Oil... just changed. Battery replaced last year (so he says, I did not pull it out to actually look). New paint on the tank and sides, looks great. That's why I was caught off guard (shouldn't not been sucked in by how good looking it was and lowish miles for a 30 year old bike) when the sprocket is going to heck. The chain has obviously been replaced already, so obviously he did not change the sprocket which made it wear that much quicker. Oh well... got a decent set on order from a local shop for $136 including an o-ring chain.

For anyone interested, here are a few photos of my new toy. Great new paint, I think she looks awesome for being as old as I am.

Im in the same boat as you as far as just buying an 81 kz 550. Its a great little bike, and for me my first. Might be a sin to most of you guys but i plan on bobbing it out. So as i go along if anybody needs any parts then just ask me. Obviously with a bobbing project you have to take alot off the bike. And for any of you out there who might beable to help me out with some stuff in return, that would be great.

If you plan on taking the seat lock, chain guard, or center stand off please let me know. I am looking at buying all those in the very near future.

Yeah buddy, as soon as i start taking off all the parts ill sort through it and we can work something out. I plan on doing a bobber on a budget, so i would like to pay for most of the work off the sold parts. Its a complete bike with some miner problems. As for all the parts you just listed i do plan on taking them off as soon as i get this thing to where ill be working on it. That might be a few weeks. If you do like the parts though we will have to work something out because ill be shiping from Argentina, haha. But hell, we will see. Ill put some pics up here as soon as i can.
