New guy with a new project.

I'm new to the forum and I thought I'd say hi.

I'm 21 years old, have an odd affinity for air-cooled machines, new and old alike. from a friends 67 beetle to vintage mopeds, to nitro-rc cars.

i got started in it all with rc cars, learned them and raced them as a teen, got a '78 puch maxi in the family and fixed it to deliver papers on, after highschool I bought and fully restored/customized an '80 puch into a racer/faster bike and then when someone offered a trade for a 1979 kz1000 that ran, but needed a little work and some parts and had been modified into a bob-tail. I decided to take him up on it.

the first things i plan on doing are to replace the missing frame parts that have been cut out. go through the engine and transmission and get everything squared away, rewire and re-rig the lights. etc etc etc. I'm actually pretty excited for it.

the custom moped I traded for it:

the pipe on it was an extended turbokit scooter pipe, hacked and welded for much better low end and mid range power. downside was the immense heat (would get nearly red-hot at the header after a long WOT ride) and the accidental burns, but it comes with the territory. its a 2-stroke bike with 65cc metrakit top end, fully rebuilt engine with roller crank, CDI, etc. Stock, it went 30 if you're lucky, after the complete rebuild it kept up with 50mph traffic. I really enjoyed the bike but i'm glad to see it go to someone who can utilize it better. besides, I have 2 others to ride.

this is my first motorcycle I've owned, but I first rode a honda shadow 250 for a bit during a summer. but I won't be riding until after I get through the safety class and everything and get alot more practice.

The performance difference will be exponetialy wide. Where your scooter topped out at 50 mph, your new Kz will do 0-50 mph in a matter of seconds. Just so you're aware buddy B)

When you did the trade did you carry a revolver to help close the deal? You made out like a bandit! Good luck with the new bike. Ed

indians are the one bike you cant get alot of performance out of, you could check with 1977mopeds or treatland.tv as far as parts go, but indians didnt get much attention lately. you can pretty much find parts if you have a bike that has been converted into a racer by some company or other.

Ed - i kept thinking the whole time "in what kind of bizarro world do i trade a moped for a motorcycle?" turns out the guy who had it didnt like having to shift or deal with a manual clutch. after loading it up and showing him how to work the puch with the lighting changes and re-wire (proper wiring after the PO left 3 different wiring braids hodgepodged together on that little bike) we sprayed some starter fluid in the carbs and it fired up and died (no gas in it) but it fires and wasnt seized so i was happy.
