New here! Droppin in to say hi!

Bought the first KZ in Dec 2009, she was a completed bike I bought my husband for Christmas. Bought the 2nd KZ in Feb, she is a work in progress. I am sure you will be able to tell which is which by the picts below..........:laugh:

Short story or long one...ha!ha!

Seriously, it all started by my searching CL, in Nov/Dec of last year trying to find my 7 year old a dirt bike for Christmas, and I just had to open the add for the black KZ550 Cafe bike and instantly fell in love!!! I knew my husband would dig it too, but we weren't really "in the market" for our own bikes...ha!ha! So I showed him the picture of it casually, and he fell instantly in love!!! "Man, that's badass! looks mean!" yadda! yadda! yadda!" So I bought it, and hid it at my neighbors house until Christmas!!! He was flabergasted!!!

We both grew up around motorcycles and rode dirt when we were younger, and always talked about getting us some once the kids moved out, blah, blah, blah......I figured hell, if we wait til then we'll be to damn old to ride and enjoy it, so I had a little impulse buy!!! PLUS - I knew if I got him one, it wouldn't be too long before we'd be hunting one for me too!!! See, us womern are sneaky like that! ha!ha! So we bought the 82 KZ550 LTD in Feb of this year.

Unlike his 550 A-2, mine needed some mechanical work in a bad way!!! When I bought his, it had recently been completely gone through and was running smooth as butter!!! Mine on the other hand, was ugly and not exactly mechanically sound, but we've done a lot to her since we got her.....and we are in the process of "cafe"ing her out some! Guess, I should post those progression pictures under the "projects" section eh?!

That 550 is Badass, I see why you both like it - and like Droid says, the other has potential!

I like the way you think. Good way to get the family into riding--all at once!

BTW, may I recommend the MSF Beginning Rider course? Even if you've been away for a few years, it's an excellent refresher for hitting the streets. Enjoy!

Yes!!! We are definately going to take MSF Beginning Rider Course!! Just trying to get my bearings with the basics on the low traffic, country backroads around the house right now. Being overly cautious, but I am getting there!

Welcome aboard! Very nice bike. I can't believe you brought "the other woman" home for your husband...what a lucky guy! :laugh:

"unasked for advice" to newish riders...as follows

check and know your tire pressure....if not sure what you should start with ..ask in a thread...i try for 32 front and rear on smaller cc bikes and go up or down 2.lbs before on few rides each ride and see if it gets any results...it can make a huge difference in comfort and grip feeling....then once you've found your likes...check it every week till you know where it stays at.....for me it's 36 p.s.i front and 34 p.s.i rear........and twice a month after it is steady....

but if you already are on it then disregard my ramble....

left turning oncoming drivers are the number one way to get hurt on a bike..followed by blind driveways and grocery store parking lanes......imo...sorry to rant

As I said before, nice rides.
Looking forward to seeing how the second one turns out.
I've got a few slow projects on the go too. My sons will be helping with them, eventually.

Please "ramble" away Craig, I will take ALL the advice and tips I can get when it comes to riding and bike maintence!! I have been trying to read/study a lot and watch youtube videos etc....
