I got my hands on an 1982 kz1100 shaft drive. the engine was shot so I bought a used one and am now able to start my rebuild. Is there anything that I need to look out for on this year and model.

Just a very good "J" series motor with a shaft drive. Replace the automatic cam chain tensioner with an APE manual one so you don't destroy another motor. Also get your self a Genuine Kawasaki Manual.

Thanks for the info! I already have a Genuine Kawasaki Manual. It is funny that you said that about the cam chain tensioner. I think that is how the previous owner destroyed the original motor. he said that he was racing and he just heard a very bad loud sound in the motor.
