Great site!! Want start off by saying if it was not for this site and my fellow kz krazys I would not even attempt to restore my 76 kz 900.But I believe with help from the knowledge around here it can be done . I am sure I will have alot of questions, this is my first resto.
I have a78 kz1000. Complete bike - the tank. It has a 75 z1 motor vin#z1e054669. This will be my parts bike. Plan on putting the 75 motor on the 76 frame. Hope to atlest save one of them.

Welcome, where at in southern IL are you. There is a fantastic shop down there on Rt.13 just west of Marion named Phillips Pro Cycle. owned by a guy named Mike Phillips. I knew him when he was the parts manager for Southern Illinois Kawasaki which was located half way between Carbondale and Murphyesboro. His shop should be somewhere across the street from Williamson Co. airport and just north of Crab Orchard Lake. He still deals a lot with the old Kaws.

Sonny is the mechanic at Phillips and is one of the best wrenches around. He has any part you might ever need for these old 900s and 1000s.

I am from Mcleansboro, about 26 miles south of Mt.Vernon. I finish concrete most of the year, layed off about 3 months out of the year. I have had these bikes 1978 kz 1000w/a 75 z1 motor, 1976 900, 1980 z1 classic with carbs on it. I am ashamed of myself for letting these bikes go to the state they are in. They have set under a carport for over 10 years. I have always known what they were,I used to ride both the 78 & 80,but over time, and alot of hardtimes they fell into a state of disrepair. The tank on the 78 rotted off of it,the 80 z1 classic kept fouling a plug on #3. So they set &set&set. Till now, I now have my life in order & need something to fill my time with. I just hope these bikes are not to far gone. I have about $2000 to put into taking the best of 3 and making 1. The only title I have is to the 80 z1,but I like the style of 76. I really dont know which parts will interchange? What does anyone think?

The 80 Mark II engine is the best in my book.
You could cut the neck off the Classic and put it on any of the bikes you want. That way it would be titled.
It's legal here ,don't know about Il.
I rode a classic for years and really liked the bike. Roy
