Hello from Green Sea, SC! was created by zoo
I am a new rider with a vintage 1975 KZ400. I love the look of my new/old KZ and cannot wait to put some miles on her when the weather clears up a bit. I'll be bouncing around getting advice on a variety of topics in the forums. Please bear with the newbie.

Hi zoo, welcome to the.....ah darn, Iron Duke beat me to it. 400's are great bikes to learn on, I started riding on a '79 kz400 about 4 years ago. If you don't have one, look around for a factory manual. It's going to come in handy.

Have fun!

Thank you!
I do have the manual and you are right...it is a must! I have been doing lots of research on parts etc.....she runs right now but I need to tweak a few things. I'll learn as I go and ride her while I am learning!

unomike......rest assured I will be in here often. I have a lot to learn. As cold as it is today I am determined to go for a little ride on the gal. It is a good day to do some polishing too.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Wow, buying a bike that actually runs...new concept for me. :P

Thinking back to my first days on the 400, my first problems were the throttle cables, then the clutch cable. Both broke on different trips, requiring my wife to come rescue me (not endearing her to my new hobby). These are easy replacements so if your cables look anywhere near worn, I'd suggest replacing them (or at least lubing them really well).

Excellent idea on the cables. It is missing the decellerater cable right now but runs without it. I think I will buy a set of all the cables and keep them in my collection. Silly question....It isn;t dangerous to ride w/o the decelleration cable is it? It decellerates w/o it. I would hate to look like a fool and have the bike leave from underneath me on a little cruise. Never mind the road rash....LOL

Have a good ride despite the cold in S.C. I'm not too far from you. Live in Bristol, TN. and right now we got 7 inches of snow on the ground. Roads were downright nasty and almost impassable (including the interstate) up until this morning. I am itching to ride but guess I'm going to wait until the weather clears up some more. I don't mind the cold, but the roads are something else. Once you make sure your old Kaw is dependable. you need to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville, NC. to Cherokee and beyond. The Parkway road system is perfect for Motorcycling and the view is fantastic.

I have been thinking about organizing a weekend ride sometimes in late spring or early summer on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Not sure yet though.
