What's going on everyone?

New to the forum, but not to bikes. I currently have a little honda 550 cafe project, but just picked up an 81 kz550 today. Well tomorrow, but I paid for it today.

I hear these motors are bulletproof. Is this true?

Also what do the different variations of the model mean? (A2 C2 D1)

I'm sure I will be lurking more than posting until I get the honda done. I know how much everyone on forums like pics, so here's what I got:

Welcome to the KZR Nation. Great to have you here.

Sorry, I have no answers for you... I just thought you have a very cool (RED) bike.

The smart people will be by soon so until then...

Best of success, :)
Bill

Don't forget to add your year, model and location to your signature to get the best responses... and it's considered real friendly too.

Welcome to the group. I can't speak for the 550, but I've been impressed with "bulletproofness" of the Kawasaki inline 4's.

As far as the model designations..... the A series appears to be the "standard", the C series is the "Ltd" (my favorites), and the D series is a GPz kind of a factory cafe racer.

For a more detailed description about the different models, I use www.cyclechaos.com/wiki/Kawasaki_Models-US#KZ

Good Luck

So I got it home, rode it around for a bit and took some pics. It was dropped on the right side, or someone sideswiped something while driving it. No damage to the underside of the pipes just a little rash on the side. no damage to the forks, or handlebars. Points cover is cracked (may be an electronic ignition, but haven't had time to take off the cover).

Enjoy
