Greetings from New Jersey
18 Jan 2010 07:00
Greetings. I used to own an '82 KZ650 CSR that I rode year-round for about 2 and a half years. (My wife had a Saab 9000 turbo, and I didn't even own a car.) My bike was stolen around the middle of '08, but it was in bad shape by hat time. I am itching to get another bike, and I have my heart set on another KZ650.
I found an ad for an '80 KZ650 LTD locally for $250, and I am looking for info/tips before I make up my mind. I would like to build a modern bobber, or "mod-bob", and I have heard that this is the place for reliable KZ info and advice.
My plans include keeping the frame mostly stock, stripping off excess weight, and upgrading the motor, suspension, brakes, etc. I would also like to build some custom parts myself. (I work in an auto-body shop, so I have tools and skills). My main concern is improving performance and reliability for a spring thru fall "daily driver".
I am sure I will be here often for tips, info, and advice.
Thank you
Shawn "IRONMAN"

Welcome Shawn.
I have seen a few 650 bobbers that looked nice.
Post up a before picture, and some afters as you go.

Hi Shawn, There are many 650 owners here and were of great help in getting my 650 E-1 LTD running great. Bobbers are nice, but a stock KZ is a piece of art. They are quite fast enough to scare you, when running well, and can be a nightmare when not. There are thousands of parts on Ebay to bring it up to par, it all depends on your budget for the project. Welcome and good luck with getting another KZ on the road.
