New from Minnesota here... was created by jared3377
Hello All!

My name's Jared, and I just bought an '82 Kawasaki KZ750 LTD two days ago. Finding it for a good deal, I jumped on the chance to snap it up--HOWEVER, being in MN, I can't ride the darn bike until at least March and more likely April. It's going to drive me crazy, but it gives me something to look forward to. I'm attaching a picture, but it's not that good of one--feel free to check it out, and I'm very grateful to find this site!

Hey Jared, glad to have another '82 750-4 around. I got mine in the winter a couple of years ago too. Mine barely ran so I spent the time during the cold weather to do a couple of things (after I got the Factory Service Manual!)

1. Pulled the carbs apart (not off the rack though) and gave them a thorough cleaning and new carb kits.

2. Went through the entire wiring harness and cleaned up all the connections.

3. Flushed the brakes with new brake fluid
4. Replaced the front fork oil. I ended up replacing the seals too 'cause mine were leaking.
5. Replaced the fuel lines and added a fuel filter.
6. Changed oil and filter

In hindsight, I should have also checked my valve clearances. Mine bike only had 12k miles on it, but I found out later that summer that 6 of 8 shims were out of spec. Since these are under bucket shims, I had to pull the cams to figure out the sizes, then order shims, then sweat over the reinstallation that everything went back correctly. A couple of weeks work for a newbie during the middle of prime riding season...should have done it in the winter.

Have fun and stay warm!
