Good to know, I have to try and get running this weekend before the snow flies.
I'm a real newby with these bikes! I did have a 1981 GPz1100 back in the mid '80's but any work done on that was in the shop.
These days I'm a little more hands on, back then no tidy garage to work in.
I reading as much as I can find on the Z1 and KZ series.
As for my plans for this bike is to get it on the road cheap and then over time bring it back to stock or as close to stock as I can afford.

Hello, Steve, and WELCOME to KZR! ![:) :)](/media/kunena/emoticons/8.png)
We're glad you're here!![:cheer: :cheer:](/media/kunena/emoticons/10.png)
Nice Z1.
Noticed the later model carbs, possibly smoothbores, but can't tell from the pic.
Also see that 2nd disk has been added to front brake, as well as an LTD seat, and possibly LTD oem shocks. And oil cooler, and that rear fender has been tossed.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the welcome and the complements on the bikes guys!
How do can I tell a stock set of carbs from a set of smooth bores?
Is there a website or section on this one I haven't seen yet that shows the stock bikes in detail?
I think a lot of guys tossed the rear fender years ago. I'll have to keep my eye on ebay.
The seat has to go! Or at least reworked in the short term. The shocks are Mulholland and the oil cooler is a Derale or something like that.
The pic is a little dark but it's only a single disk. Ebay again or is there another way and keep it stock and run a dual disc setup?
On the H2 the dual disc was an option so I would assume it was the same for the Z1 but try and find an original set. Good luck!

Well after a little research it looks like I have the KZ900 26 mm carbs.
I found the Z1 Enterprises carb ID & Specs site very helpful!
www.z1enterprises.com/reference/z1-carb-guide.aspx
My carbs look like this with the drain screw and overflow pipe. I'll have to measure the bores.
Looks like I have a real dogs breakfast of a Z1, with a '73 frame and engine an LTD seat, a Kawi triple fender and KZ900 carbs.

Steve...if you are going to really do a true restoration, might I suggest they following:
1. join wwz1z900oc.multiply.com/ good bunch of guys and very knowledgeable about early Z's
and
2: borrow or buy Dave Marsden's 'Original Kawasaki Z1, Z900 & KZ900'. 1999. currently out-of-print, but occasionally available used but very pricey at about $150.00 or so.

Welcome Steve.
Good to see your cutting down on your smoking.![;) ;)](/media/kunena/emoticons/11.png)
Nice looking Z1 you've got there.
Thought I had pictures of your bike at Haugen's but couldn't find them.
I did find these though. A couple bikes you may know:

Welcome aboard Steve. This is a great place for all the KZ information you need, and some you dont!
ps, I'd be interested in that Kerker pipe if you are putting the bike back to stock.

Hey Rob! Good to see you here too but I should have guessed you be a regular KZrider member with your tricked out KZ650! Nice bike... It looks great in blue!
The picture in one of my previous post of my S3 400 is from Haugens '08 when we had about 5 or 6 triples there to smoke out all black leather clad Harley dudes! LOL!!
I've gotta say every time we show up the Harley dudes gather around to have a look. 20 years ago the would have torched them! LOL!
For anyone not in the Toronto area, Haugens is a chicken and rib place north east of the city that has a Thursday night Bike Night, sometimes with a couple thousand bikes!
Here's couple more...
And here's a couple from the VRRA Mosport Vintage Festival '09...
That's Jim's "72 H2 and Anthony's '74 H1 and my S3.
And I saved the best for last...
Drew's amazing KZ1000, nice!!!

Terry, the pipe is pretty rough it has a 1/4" hole in the collector and a split just after the rear section joint.
I don't think it'd be worth the shipping cost.
If your still interested PM me...
