New member from Aberdeen in the UK

Hi folks,

Long time reader first time poster.

I did a lot of z250 restorations about 15 years ago long before the Interweb revolution. Wife made me give it all up to do the marriage and kids thing.

Finally let me buy a restoration project (she thinks I wont complete it) and I thought I would have a go at a z650.

So I trawled the auction sites and got a non-runner for a winter restoration. All I can say is, it looked like that when I bought it. Now struggling to work out whats been modified but its certainly colorful. Ignition was all busted which makes me think some kids have taken it joyriding through a paint factory at some stage.

I expect I will need a fair bit of assistance over the coming months

I think we are only outnumbered by our US friends by about 500:1.

This is a great site and some of the guys are really knowledgeable and helpful- just what you need.

I am going to suggest that you buy the official Kawasaki service manual for your bike before they do!!

Got it off ebay for 350 quid. The z650s seem to be going up in price at the moment. I have watched boxes of bits go for over 500. Cost me almost as much to get it up to Aberdeen from Rotherham as it cost to buy it.

Old owner said the engine had blown and it came with a GPZ750 engine and forks on the side, old owner was going to streetfighter it but gave up. Pistons move freely enough and the gears can all be selected so it should be salvageable. One of the spark plugs had a badly fitted helicoil and it had probably been blowing past the spark plug. Block is well and trully stuck on at the moment so the first challenge is getting it off

I think it has a z750 block and the GPZ carbs installed already but lots of other components are non-standard. Got the manual but only goes so far when the engine is a bit of a hybrid.

My paypal account is going to get a fair bit of exercise... No idea how I managed to do restorations without the internet or ebay in the old days.
