New Member New Bike
26 Sep 2009 20:06
Just saying hello and that I am really glad this forum is here. I just lucked up on a fully running '84 KZ700 and it was given to me if I would just get it out of a guys yard. I love the bike and the feel which is very strange because I have always been a harley man. Not any more the KZ is now my only bike so I am sure as I try to get it fixed up I will be requesting a lot of advice. So to end this Hello All!

Thanks for the welcomes and can you tell me why it is kind of rare? I seem to be having major issues finding parts for this bike.

they only made the kz700 for the usa for i think it was 2 years because of import tariffs on bikes bigger than 750cc most of the parts are the same as kz750's from the same time. in canada we always had the 750's never got the 700's

TB is correct...but it is even rarer than you might know. They made it for only one year and only produced 2000 units...all these went to the US...Canada, as mentioned, got the KZ750L4 that year (1984) and it looked identical to the KZ700A1 except for displacement. Because of this, the 700 shares many parts with the 750 line and that will aid in finding items. If you don't have a genuine shop manual for your bike, try this...
kz.mbsween.com/manual.html
Don't be discouraged that the manual says 750...dig through the contents and you'll discover the 700 is included in this manual...and consider yourself lucky...I'd really like to fall into a KZ700A...

Good to have you here. Hey check the forums recently, there are a couple of KZ700's you can check out for reference and maybe get intouch with the builders/owners for some help with parts and hints. Now get us those pics :woohoo:

FREE now you cant beat that. The reason it is rare is because the Harleys couldnt sell enough units so they had the government impose a tarriff for anything over 700 cc's. Creative marketing I would say
