New owner, member...

Hi Folks,

New here... just picked up a pretty sad ol' KZ650... actually, it's all there, just covered in a robust layer of dust and some grime, and the 'console' area is all disassembled and jumbled up.. wires everywhere. Panels are all faded, but largely unscathed... it appears someone tried to paint it about 17 years ago maybe, who knows.

It's a hodge-podge of parts from various KZ's I think. The wheels are the 19" + 16" Enkei mags, but it's a B model frame, so those are transplants. It has 3 discs, and the rear master cylinder setup bolts to the rear footpeg bracket, so that's not stock. It has clip-ons instead of handle bars. I'm thinking the rear master setup must've come off an early 80's KZ750, going by some grainy pics I've looked at. My guess is that this was a popular 'el-cheap-o' swap to do at some point b/c it's all bolt-on.

Not new to old bikes, so it's (hopefully) all good and not going to be a problem. Went through the carbs and cleaned 'em up... still need a rebuild kit for the accel-pump setup, it was dry-rotted. I've gotten some life out of it already, it appears all 4 lungs fire (started it on ether, it ran for about 10 seconds). Each header tube was equally hot. *whew*

Once I get it running, and the brake system rebuilt, I'll reassemble the electrical 'nest' and see about taking pics of it to post. I'm not going to put it back together until it at least runs fairly reliably.

Welcome James... lotsa 650 owners on this site, should you need some input...although it appears you may be ahead of us in the general bike knowledge department

Welcome aboard. Be sure to change the oil before you start it up or you'll circulate crap throughout the engine. Ed
