I've been visiting KZR for years and finally registered. Ride a 1980 KZ650LTD i bought new when I was 18 (do the math). Spent most of my adolescence riding with friends who also rode KZs of one form or another. All but one have moved on and no longer ride. The one is my friend Paul who still has his mint 1980 1000LTD.
Over the years I've replaced the front end after T-boning a VW in 1985 and performed a complete restore 3 years ago.
Two weeks ago I laid it down 20 miles south of Prescott AZ so I get to start the process all over again. Triple tree is tweaked, stator cover, tank, speedo & bracket, head light, left controls etc. My friend Paul's been on a mission and has found a stator cover, kick stand, headlight bracket and personally refurbished my gauges. Great friend!
I was briefly considering a different ride but can't bring myself to part with a bike that I share so much history with. Looking forward to restoring it again. It's too damn hot to ride in Phoenix in the summer anyway. I'll post picture when I'm done.

Welcome.
I second the request for pix.
Gotta see this restoration. Might give some of us ideas.

That's a shame! Good luck w/restoring it. I'm new as well & still learning how to navigate through all this. I just got called back today after being laid off since March 4th so hopefully I can start trying to rebuild my 79 KZ1000ST again. I bought it 3yrs ago for $400 (It was also my 1st full size bike. The last thing I'd ridden was a 100 dirt bike 25yrs ago. You should've seen the State riding instructors face when I told him what I had when I took the 3 day course! Priceless!!)
