If your shop manual turns out to be bogus, a ggod one can be ordered from www.repairmanual.com I replaced the one that was getting oil stained and dog eared when I bought my bike in 1982.

It came to about $60 but has all the current updates in it along with colored wiring diagrams.

Thanks MFolks, I just ordered the one from Blujay. If it's bogus I'll follow your suggestion.

Not to burst your bubble but I don't think that motor is a 1400. It would need an after market cylinder set and I have never heard of a six speed tranny conversion. I could be wrong though. It is a sweet bike either way.

The cylinder block is aftermarket but hard to tell unless you get real close. The motor was kept stock looking and bland for street racing. The head is stock but has a 3 or 5 angle valve job (can’t remember), Stainless and Titanium throughout for running Avgas. Lots of interesting stories with this one. In his bad boy days the neighbor ran from the cops more than a few times.

The only thing that ever gave him problems were the Busa’s when they first appeared and in its 1327cc days it would beat the Busa’s in the quarter but after that they would pull up hard. It would beat a factory Busa with a 186mph limiter but if the limiter was removed he had problems. That’s the reason for the 1428cc rebuild.

I was stunned at the 6 speed claim too. It drops the RPM’s about 500 at cruising speeds over 180 and the Mad Max pack he ran around with traveled all over South Florida at those speeds. If you couldn’t do at least 180+ you weren’t running with the big dogs. I’m told it has done 210mph on a half dozen or so occasions.

As explained to me the 6 speed tranny is a simple conversion (no modification to the cases). The KZ1300’s run the 6 speed trans and all you do is swap a few gears from the cassettes drop back into place and presto. He explained it pretty quick and I’ll get the particulars if you are interested.

I'm still looking for photos of the battery box area to help put this dragon back on the road...
