Returning member, and my "new" 83 Spectre.
06 Jul 2009 22:39
It's good to be back. I had a 79 kz1000 that I loved. When I bought that bike it had straight bars, new midnight blue paint, and was a bit tricked out like a drag bike. I sold that maybe two years ago and as of late, decided that I missed riding.
So I got an 83 kz750 spectre. Didn't know much about this bike or if it was a good bike. All I knew is that it was in descent shape, was cheap, and I wanted a bike now. This bike is kind of the complete oppossite of my 79 kz1000ltd bike, as it's basically bone stock and it's even baffled. Even the old school 80s CA license plate was on it. Every stock part is there though, but it is missing a right foot peg.
There is absolutely no chrome on it, which I kind of like, as I am not too much into bling any way. Just realized though that it has an adjustable suspension. The ride felt so soft...and low and behold the suspension was set on the softest settings. Needs some TLC..has a rip in the seat, is still dirty as heck, some surface rust here and there, and probably needs some tuning. Just got this bike over the 12k mark and it's running great after a few rides and some sea foam, and can't imagine how great it will run after some real tuning.
Needs a lot of work to be perfect as you can see, and am thinking about replacing the stock air filter with K&N pods.

Nice bike there. That is a good looking bike you have. One of the better looking 750's I've seen from Japan for the time.

I really like the look of the Spectre's. Yours looks to be a nice example. Shame you want to pod it. Why exactly do you want to do that?

Bah, I just barely started really working on the bike. Carbs are off, cleaning, plan to sync the carbs afterwards, then hopefully clean the whole bike finally.
