Just brought home a KZ1000 with 13000 miles. Thought I would take a moment to introduce myself. I'm still learning about the bike but here is what I know. Bike has mikuni carbs and has a later model front fork with provisions for dual brake rotors. Bike has second brake rotor, but not caliper. The bike has had the rear suspension lowered with links. I'll be removing those shortly. Electric starter and kick starter work with no problems. Bike runs fine. The front brake master cylinder seems to have issues. The brakes work fine, but pull almost to the grips. I'm probably going to get the second brake rotor functional so a new master cylinder is probably in order any way. I'll post pictures soon. Any KZ newbie advice is welcome.

Welcome!
Im a relative newbie here as well. Seems like we've both come to the right place. Gratz on the new ride.

Your gonna get the second rotor functional? Does that mean you already have dual rotors but one is not functioning or your gonna add a second rotor?

Dual front disk uses a larger piston Master cylinder and a differant line spliter to accept the second front brake line.

Welcome to the site. Like was stated before you will need a different front m/c anyway so your good there. You will need a splitter and you could upgrade to braided lines for pretty cheap at z1enterprises.com. I also picked up a 77 last year with 13k on it. Put your location and bike in your signature so people will know what your talking about if you have more questions. Now get that brake fixed and ride that thing-also post some pics!

Thanks guys! Any info about finding the right splitter? The calipers and MC seem pretty easy to find.

eBay eBay eBay! Look for descriptions that include KZ1000B models, or 1000 LTD models, or 1977/1978 LTD 1000 models...
